Recap on Limon Games!

This past weekend the Genoa-Hugo Pirates took on the Limon Badgers. The last time the Lady Pirates beat Limon was over 23 years ago. When Friday, January 10th rolled around, Genoa-Hugo took on Limon.  On two different occasions the Pirates were down by 12 points but were able to rally the score back to tie the game at a minute and at 54 seconds, finally running the clock out of time.  The highest scorer for the Lady Pirates was Ariel Bray with 24 points. The highest scorer for the Limon Badgers was Jayci Hollenbaugh with 21 points.   The final score at Friday’s game was 64- 59 in over-time, with the Pirates taking the win.  The 23 year losing streak was finally broken!

The boys had a good fight against the Limon Badgers. During this hard fought game, the Pirates held the lead the entire game up till the 4th quarter.  The Pirates fell short of a win, with the final score being 48-35. The highest scorer for the Pirates was Black Liangpha with 9 points. Limon has not entered stats for the game. Both Pirate teams worked hard during their games. No one gave up and fought till the end!    

 

Latest on Basketball

The past week our high school boys and girls basketball teams played Kim and Kiowa.  Friday, the girls got a 55-45 win over the Kim girls. The leading scorers were Ariel Bray and Taryn Book, both with 16 points.  The boys got a 51-40 victory over Kim also, with Wyatt Vick as their leading scorer with 17 points.  On Saturday the girls took a hard fought loss of 45-43 to Kiowa.  Ariel Bray was the leading scorer with 19 points.  The boys also had a tough loss to Kiowa with a score of 54-44.  Wyatt Vick was the leading scorer with 19 points.  Also on Saturday both JV teams lost.  Both teams have a 2-2 overall record.  They both play Hi Plains at home on Thursday. Up Coming Games!

This weekend, the Genoa-Hugo Pirates take on the Kim Mustangs on Friday at 4p.m., and Saturday the Kiowa Indians at 2p.m.  Both the boys and girls records are 1-1.  Kim’s girls leading scorer is Taylor Nittler who is averaging 18.5 points, 2 assists and 7.5 rebounds per game.  Unfortunately, the Kim boys did not put stats on Maxpreps.  The Kiowa leading girl’s scorer is Cheyenne Mckenzie averaging 12.5 points and three rebounds per game.  The Kiowa boy’s team leading scorer is Jake Sewald averaging 10 points and 6 rebounds.  The leading scorer for the Lady Pirates is Ariel Bray averaging 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.  The leading scorer for the Genoa-Hugo boy’s team is Black Liangpha averaging 11 points, 10 rebounds and three steals per game.  The Kim game will be in Swink and the Kiowa game will be in Hugo with middle school games before the high school.

  

 

First Week of Basketball

The first basketball game of the season was on Friday against Simla.  The girls had a hard fought game but lost 59-43.  The senior Cora Ravenkamp was the team’s leading scorer with 11 points.  The boys also had a hard fought game that ended the same, with a loss of 58-23.  The boys leading scorer was Black Liangpha with 6 points.

Then, on Saturday, both teams played for the third and fourth place game.  The girls got an easy win against Edison with a score of 50-32.  The leading scorer of the game was Ariel Bray with 27 points.  The boys had a nail biting win in overtime with a score of 44-39.  The boys leading scorer was Black Liangpha with 16 points.  Both teams won third place!
