Favorite Sports

At Genoa-Hugo School there are lots of different options of favorite sports. We made a survey of different sports that both the Middle School and High School students took. We had both regular and unusual sports such as basketball, volleyball, football, track, scuba diving, golf, and etc. We made a prediction that basketball and football would be the most favorite, but we were wrong. On the survey were unusual sports that we didn’t think would get a lot of votes. The High School had more unusual sports that were their favorites. The Middle School had more regular sports like basketball and volleyball. We added video games because some people don’t play sports and we counted that as a sport. Most of the sports that were on the survey aren’t close to where we live.

The Middle School’s three top favorites were:  1. Basketball, 2. Football, 3. Baseball

The High School’s three top favorites were:  1. Basketball, 2. Volleyball, 3. Baseball

 

Coach Book’s Thoughts on the Season

This season the head girls basketball coach is Kenny Book.  We asked him a couple questions about the upcoming season.

Q: What are your feelings about the upcoming season?

A: I hope to make these girls better and better and work harder each and every day.

Q: How long have you been coaching?

A: I have been coaching for 16 years.

Q: How do you evaluate your players?

A: I evaluate them in practice by their effort.

Q: How do you determine who plays each week?

A:  I determine who plays each week the same way I evaluate them, in practice.

Q: What is your favorite part of the game?

A: Defense is my favorite part of the game.

Q: What is your favorite basketball quote?

A: “Good teams have good players great teams have great teammates.”

Q: When you were in high school could you dunk it?

A: Yes with two hands.

We will be having our first scrimmage Saturday November 30, in La Junta at 10 am.  We invite you all to attend.  We thank you for your time and hope you have a great season!

 

It’s About That Time!

After a long year of waiting, basketball is finally back! Last season the boy’s team made it to districts and the girls team made it to regionals. This year, boys and girls hope to make it even further than they did last year. The coaching staff also hopes to have a productive and successful season. The first game will take place in Simla at 4:30p.m. on December 6th. The girl’s game will be first and the boy’s game will follow. Both teams will play the Simla Bear Cubs. If we win, we will play the following day in the championship game, but if not, we will play in the 3rd and 4th place game. The girls and boys times may be different depending on who wins and losses. We hope that everyone will come out to support us in this year’s season.
